COMMON EUROPEAN LANGUAGE FRAMEWORK (CEFR)

The Common European Framework provides a structured descriptive basis for language skills. The aim is to assign titles from different certification bodies for all European languages, which are categorized into 6 levels of knowledge:
A1 -Basic, A2 -Basic, B1 -Moderate, B2 -Good, C1 -Very Good, C2 -Excellent

Degrees of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation

By the Decree of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation from January 1, 2015 the level of knowledge of the Russian language as a foreign language is certified by the Unified State Certificate of Russian Studies (and not a specific university), approving a list of educational institutions that have the right to study of the Russian language as a foreign language:

  1. State Institute of Russian Language “A. S. Pushkin”.
  2. Moscow State University “M. V. Lomonosov”
  3. “Peoples’ Friendship” State University.
  4. St. Petersburg State University.
  5. Tyumen State University.

Lomonosov University

Lomonosov Moscow State University is the largest and one of the oldest universities in Russia. Since 2006 he has been conducting examinations in Athens at the Science and Culture Center of the Russian Embassy

His exams are recognized by ASEP and all official bodies having international recognition and are preferred by those who intend to study in Russia.

The exams are held in June for all six basic language levels:

A1- MODERN LEVEL (TZU)
A2- BASIC LEVEL (TBU)
B1- MEDIUM LEVEL (RACES 1)
B2- GOOD LEVEL (TRKI 2)
C1- VERY GOOD 3

They are conducted by professors of the Department of Philology of Moscow Lomonosov State University, with the support of the Russian Cultural and Scientific Center in Athens. The exams include 5 sections :

  • comprehension of oral speech
  • reading comprehension
  • Writing
  • production of oral speech
  • vocabulary and grammar exercises.

TORFL DIPLOMAS

TORFL Diplomas are awarded by Lomonosov University.
The  TORFL (Test of Russian as a Foreign Language or русскому Тест по языку как иностранному or ТРКИ) is a standard certification supervised by the Russian Ministry of Education and Science. The examination has six levels that correspond exactly to the descriptive basis of the Council of Europe Common Framework for Modern Languages ​​(ALTE).

Since 1998, the examination has become mandatory for admission to Russian universities. TORFL-1 is required for university studies, while for Bachelor or Master you need to have at least a TORFL -2 level.

Each level A1-C2 consists of five sections: speaking, listening, reading, grammar and vocabulary, and writing. The minimum score for each level is at least 66% in each section (at least 60% of the total is allowed in one of the five sections). Advantages of TORFL

  • The TORFL certificate is permanently valid
  • If the student has the right to be examined next time only in the section in which he failed.

Pushkin Institute of Athens

The Institute also operates as an examination center for certification of knowledge of the Russian language, with diplomas of language levels from A1 to C2, which are recognized ONLY by the Hellenic ASP.

The Examination System (CPC) adopts the principles set by the Council of Europe, so they have international recognition. The degree of ability to speak, write the language, but also the mediation function is checked , from Greek to the language of examination .
Their upgraded structure allows candidates to have double chances of certification at least at one level, depending on their performance in the tests of both levels!

CERTIFICATE “Russian Language – Uroven A1 – Survival”

The candidate at this level has limited knowledge, which is required to deal with ordinary everyday circumstances. Specifically, he has a limited vocabulary and knows whole phrases, ie words, phrases and sentences that he has learned and uses them as single sets. He also has the ability to understand and produce short and simple texts.

CERTIFICATE «Russian Language – Learning A2 – Principal»

At this level the candidate must have the basic communication skills, ie be able to use the Russian language in spoken and written language, formal or friendly, to meet daily needs and communication situations.

Must be able to understand sentences and expressions that occur frequently and are related to personal and family information, shopping, entertainment, etc. Must be able to communicate using basic language skills in everyday situations / situations that require simple and immediate exchange of information around from familiar topics. They should also be able to exchange information on familiar, routine or urgent matters.

Lomonosov A1 (ТЭУ)  – “Basic knowledge of the Russian language”

Successful examinations of this level certify the basic knowledge and skills of the candidate that allow him to respond to specific situations of daily life and ensure “survival” in the country.

Lomonosov A2 (ТБУ)  – “Basic knowledge of the Russian language”

This diploma certifies the basic knowledge and skills of the candidate in limited issues of daily, cultural and social life, which are often used and are particularly relevant to home situations.

Lomonosov  (ТРКИ -1)  – “Moderate knowledge of the Russian language”

Successful examinations of this level certify the knowledge and skills of an average level of the candidate who can discuss and develop various topics of daily, cultural, professional and social life. A degree of this level is required for admission to undergraduate programs in Russian higher education institutions.

CERTIFICATE “РУССКИЙ ЯЗЫК – ПОРОГОВЫЙ УРОВЕНЬ В2” of the Pushkin Institute

Subjects who have assimilated the Intermediate level material (Пороговый Уровень), must be able to cope with the current requirements of communication in everyday social situations, for receiving and transmitting information. Indicative:

  • ask for the name of an unknown object,
  • to ask questions, to answer questions, to recommend, to answer recommendations,
  • to speak, to greet, to say goodbye, to allow, to reject, to apologize, to forgive, to express gratitude, to respond to the expression of gratitude,
  • to express pleasure, joy, to give a positive or negative answer, to address a stranger, to accept, to suggest something,
  • to approve, to admire, to invite to a joint activity, to accept an invitation, to understand the television program,
  • to choose and buy something, to ask the opinion of his interlocutor, to offer to treat, to order coffee

The  second part  of the examination in cultural knowledge includes questions of geographical and demographic content, about the structure of the state, religion, the official holidays of Russia

B2 (ТРКИ -2) – “Good knowledge of the Russian language”

This diploma certifies the knowledge and skills of a fairly high level of the candidate who can communicate comfortably in all matters of daily, cultural, social, as well as professional life.

This degree is required for obtaining the basic degree and the Master’s degree of Russian higher educational institutions outside the faculties of philology and is necessary for admission to the postgraduate programs of Russia.

Successful examinations of this level certify the knowledge and skills of a high level of the candidate who can communicate comfortably in all matters of daily, cultural, social, as well as professional life. This degree is necessary for obtaining the basic degree of Russian higher educational institutions in philology. C2 (ТРКИ-4)  – “Excellent knowledge of the Russian language”

Successful examinations at this level certify the knowledge and skills of the candidate at the parent level. This degree is necessary for obtaining the Master’s degree of Russian higher education institutions in philology and gives the holder the right to teach the Russian language and to do scientific research in the field of Russian language.
